I'm feeling good after my port-a-cath placement surgery.  In an earlier post I think I said they were putting the catheter in my jugular vein, but that's not true.  It was inserted into my subclavian vein.  I don't know what I was thinking when I said jugular.  That's just funny!  Anyways, I just got home and so far I'm in very little pain.  Mom is going to go fill my prescription for later, for when it starts to hurt more.  After that I'll be in percocet heaven!  :)  Ha, ha!

I went into the hospital at 1:00 PM today and then I had to get an IV in my hand, which was a new experience.  I'm glad I'll have this port so they don't have to do that again.  One hand didn't work so they had to work on the other hand.  Lucky me!  I guess only the lucky ones get poked twice.  They had me wear a gown that felt and looked like it was made of paper.  That gave me and mom a good laugh.  It even had little windows throughout the gown that could be hooked to a machine that blows warm air into the gown.  I skipped that feature, but the little windows were funny.  I looked really beautiful!  Hopefully you can hear the sarcasm in that statement.  :)

Mom went with me to the hospital.  We visited for hours and hours before the actual surgery took place.  We laughed and had a lot of fun.  My nurses were really good to me and it was fun to talk to them.  They couldn't have been sweeter and my anaesthesiologists were awesome.  One of them was REALLY funny and very caring.  He cared for me so sweetly and I was impressed.  He kept telling me I'd be getting my margarita soon, so I could be unconscious during the surgery.

My surgeon was very awesome AND I have to say he was CUTE!  He looked very young to be a surgeon.  Mom thought he looked like he should have been in college.  Anyways, he put the port on the left side of my chest, near my collarbone.  I haven't seen the port-a-cath yet, because it's covered with tape and gauze.  I can't take the tape and gauze off for a long while.  They told me not to shower for 48 hours!  I'm not excited about that, but I'll try to think of as camping so it won't be so bad.  I go in for a follow-up visit to see him in another week and he'll see if the port is doing well...basically checking to see if it is infected and healing properly.  I have to keep the area clean and I'm not supposed to carry anything over 10 pounds.

That was my day!  I decided to get a sub for the field trip tomorrow.  I had to make a decision and I don't know how it's going to feel tonight and tomorrow when the meds wear off, so I decided to take the day off just in case.  It's kind-of disappointing.  I would have liked to have gone with my sweet kids.  Well, that's all for now.  Thank you for all your prayers and well wishes.  I have a wonderful family.
