"Being human, we would expel from our lives physical pain and mental anguish and assure ourselves of continual ease and comfort, but if we were to close the doors upon sorrow and distress, we might be excluding our greatest friends and benefactors.  Suffering can make saints of people as they learn patience, long-suffering, and self-mastery."  President Spencer W. Kimball

"I used to think, if I were the Lord, I would not suffer people to be tried as they are; but I have changed my mind on that subject.  Now I think I would, if I were the Lord, because it purges out the meanness and corruption that stick around the Saints, like flies around molasses."  President John Taylor

I found these two quotes in a book I'm reading.  They made me think that I NEED my cancer, or the lessons I'm going to learn from it anyways.  I guess I need to be refined so I can be more saint-like.  Well, I know I do actually.  I need to be purge the meanness and learn to be more patient.  I could also benefit from the skills of long-suffering and self-mastery.  And of course I need to be less corrupt.  Ha, ha! :)  That sounds so terrible, but I think it means to repent.  Well, I just thought you all might like these quotes.  We all have our "trials" and these quotes put them in a unique perspective.  Kind-of makes you think huh?
